Mumbai and Delhi began their IPL competition in 2008 when the latter was still known as Delhi Daredevils. Mumbai won their first ever encounter with Mumbai beating them by 29 runs on May 4th, 2008 in Mumbai. Delhi later regained the edge by winning 5 wickets at Delhi on May 24 2008. Their encounters in South Africa in 2009 were also in favor of Delhi as they had a win on two occasions at Centurion and East London.

In 2010 – 12011, it retaliated with strength, winning four match victories, three matches in the ground of the capital Delhi and one in the ground of Mumbai.   • 2023: A win by Mumbai was sealed in Delhi on 11 April.
  • 2024: As their previous seasons, both teams exchanged punches once more Mumbai beat Delhi in Mumbai by 29 runs, Delhi beat Mumbai with an absentee record of 257/4 (the highest score vs Mumbai) in Delhi, and a 10 run victory on April, 27, 2024.

What is the 2025 Season?

April 13, 2025 Turning point in Delhi

  • There was a 12-run victory at Arun Jaitley, Mumbai (205/5 vs 193 all out). The three wickets of Karn Sharma were decisive. This victory stopped the initial flow of Delhi and started the comeback of Mumbai.
  • Mumbai beat Delhi with 59 runs on the 21 st of May. A significant contribution by Suryakumar Yadav, who remained unbeaten on 73 and Naman Dhir with his match-winning cameo (24 0 8) saw Mumbai end up with 180/5. Delhi managed to break and they were out of their playoffs.

This defeat was a confirmation of what no IPL team had ever achieved before; it failed to make the playoffs despite having won the first four games of the competition.

The victory of Mumbai also guaranteed the fourth and the last playoff spot in IPL 2025.

All in all, Delhi ended up on the fifth position with 15 points in 14 matches- good on an individual basis, but lacking consistency when it mattered most.

This has been a fierce rivalry with 36 duels and numerous plays to the finish line and mighty performances on both sides. The skill of Mumbai to succeed in big game attacks (such as finals and critical league games) makes them slightly more advanced in general but as far as the big scores and the ability to break the flow of a game are concerned Delhi is an equal match as far as the total is concerned.
