Gautam Gambhir was born in Punjabi khatri family, his grandparents were from Multa. They shifted to Delhi in 1947. He was adopted by his maternal parents when he was just eighteen days old and lived with them ever since. Gambhir started playing cricket at age 10. He joined Modern School in New Delhi and completed his primary education as well as secondary education from the same school. Later he was coached by Sanjay Bhardawaj and Raju Tandon at Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy. He joined Delhi cricket team back in 1999 and played domestic for Delhi. In 2008, He joined Delhi Daredevils.

Gauti has completed his primary and secondary education from Modern School, New Delhi. He further pursued his graduation for Delhi University from Hindu college. This institute is famous for its academic excellence.

Gambhir started his domestic career back in 1999. He used to play for Delhi. Later, in 2008 he got selected and played for Delhi Daredevils.  His ODI debut was on 11 April 2003  against Bangladesh. Gautam Gambhir International test debut was on 3rd November 2004 against Australia. Also, his T20 debut was back on 13 September 2007 against Scotland. Gautam Gambhir has been part of the team at some of the very important and heroic moments like in the time of International Cricket Council Cricket World cup 2011, International Cricket Council T20 World Cup 2007 and Asian Cricket Council Asia up 2010.

However, Gautam Gambhir’s last T20 match was against Pakistan on 28 December 2012. His last ODI was on 27 January 2013 against England. Gauti’s last Test was on 9 November 2016 against England. Later on 3 December 2018, He announced his retirement from all formats. 

After retirement, They began his new inning in politics he joined Bharatiya Janata Party and contested the 2019 Parliament election from East Delhi. Where he defeated congress candidate Arvinder singh by 3.91 lakhs votes.

He was born and brought up in Delhi in Hindu family. His father name is Deepak Gambhir he is Textile businessman. While his mother Seema Gambhir is house manager. He has a younger sister who is two years smaller than him. Her name is Ekta Gambhir.
