The Cricketing season is heating up as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is about to start. Tournament will be played from 19 February to 9 March. There are lots of factors which make the 2025 edition of Champions Trophy special. First of all Pakistan is hosting the first ICC event after 28 years, Since the attack on the Sri Lankan Team in 2009. And for that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is constantly in the attempt of making everything perfect, from stadium renovations to upgradation. However, some photos of the ‘Gaddafi Stadium’ got viral which led to many concerning questions. We’ll go all through these, but firstly we’ll try to cover all the updates and queries about Champions Trophy 2025.

Format of Champions Trophy 2025

Many fans are confused about the format of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. So, as the last edition of the tournament was played in the T20 format. This edition is going to be played in ODI format. There are a total eight teams qualified for the tournament, divided in two groups- Group A & Group B. The tournament consists of 12 group matches, every team will play 3 matches at group stage. And the top 2 teams from each group are going to qualify for semi-finals.

India &  Pakistan have yet to announce their squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Venues

Pakistan proposed three venues for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Including- Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karanchi. Whereas, after a long dispute with BCCI, PCB agreed for a hybrid model for the tournament. ICC decided to include Dubai for India’s matches.

Political Tension Between India & Pakistan Ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The Participation of India in the Champions Trophy was not cleared. Which created a political tension between both of the cricket boards. The BCCI announced from the start that  India will not play in Pakistan. Leading the statement, PCB released numerous statements saying, it’s not fair to bring politics in the sports. They also mentioned that Pakistan’s cricket team also visited India to Play the ODI World Cup 2023. But, it’s unfair India is not returning the favor.

Following these statements, many sources also claimed that India will not come to Pakistan. Then they will be disqualified from the tournament, And PCB will host the tournament successfully even without India. In all of these accusations and claims, BCCI stayed on their decision. And finally PCB agreed for a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy.

POK Controversy During Trophy Tour

On 14 November, 2025 PCB announced the Trophy tour ahead of Champions Trophy 2025. Which sparked controversy because the Trophy tour included the cities from POK which is a disputed region between India and Pakistan. The announced cities from POK region were- Skardu, Hunza, and Muzaffarabad. After the objection from the BCCI, ICC announced the revised cities name on 16 November, 2025 for Trophy tour. The revised cities included- Islamabad, Taxila, Khanpur, Abbottabad, Murree, Nathia Gali, and Karachi.

In the starting of January, 2025 some pictures of Gaddafi stadium which is under construction went viral. And these pictures raise many questions on PCB’s preparations for Champions Trophy. By looking at the pictures it is hard to say if the stadium is going to be ready by the 25 January. Which is the deadline from ICC. While officials claim that it will be completed by the deadline. But, their statements are not enough to satisfy all of these questions about Gaddafi Stadium.
