Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, is unarguably one of the most fierce editions of the IND Vs AUS test encounters. 1st Test Match 22-25 Nov, 2024 (Optus Stadium)

In the first test match, India decided to bat first after winning the toss. But their decision to bat first proved to be a disaster, Indian innings packed up at a score of 150 runs. Australia have to come to bat on the same day. And India was prepared with the bowl. They didn’t give a single chance to any batter to get set. And Australia got all-out at just 104 runs. Jasprit Bumrah’s 5 wicket haul was the highlight from the day 1 of the match.

In the IND Vs Aus second innings, India created a huge difference by a stable opening partnership. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal outperformed the Australian bowling attack. And India was able to give a good target to Australia by the help of Jaiswals and Kohli’s centuries. Australia had a nearly impossible target to chase and the Indian bowling attack made it worse. 2nd Test Match 6-8 Dec, 2024 (Adelaide Oval)

In the IND Vs Aus second test match, India continued to go for batting first after winning the toss. And again India failed to perform, Mitchell Starc did an impressive work with the ball. He picked 6 wickets including Jaiswal’s wicket who mocked him in the first test match. Australia easily crossed India’s total and built a strong lead over India with the help of Travis Head’s century. However, Bumrah and Siraj did good bowling. But, India was way behind after the first innings of both sides.

Again when India came to bat, the batamed seemed to suffer. Except Nitish Kumar Reddy, Every batter failed to hold his wicket. This time Pat Cummins was top wicket taker for Australia with 5 wickets. Australia easily chased down the 19 runs target without losing a single wicket.

3rd Test Match 14-18 Dec, 2024 (The Gabba)

In the IND Vs Aus third test match, India again got luck at their side and this time they invited Australia to bat first. But, the day 1 of the test got washed out due to rain. On the next day Australia came to bat, Steve Smith and Travis Head did a splendid job with their batting. Both of them hitted centuries and Australia got 445 runs on board. Bumrah was the only one to perform from the Indian bowling attack, he took 6 wickets in 28 overs while conceding 76 runs only.

While batting India faced the same problem, losing wickets in bunches. KL Rahul showed his class and built partnership with Jadeja to rescue India’s innings. India scored 260 runs and avoided follow-on with the help of impactful innings of tail-enders. Australia was playing aggressive in the second innings to get as many runs to defend and get enough time to bowl out India. But, the rain interrupted the play again, leading the match to the draw.

4th Test Match 26-30 Dec, 2024 (MCG)

In the fourth test match, Australia elected to bat first after winning the toss. While batting first, Australia made 474 runs. Steve Smith was the top scorer with 140 runs. India again faced the same problem with the top-order. Jaiswal and Nitish Reddy continued to showcase their talent. Reddy scored his maiden international century and made it a memorable moment for him and his family. India showed a good fight-back in the first innings.

Australia played well in the second innings and converted their total into a good target. India needed some of the unbelievable batting performances to turn the odds in their favor. But, the Indian batting line-up continues to upset all the fans. Only Jaiswal managed to get runs, and Pant also showed some resilience. Other than them every batter just throws their wickets. Australia won it comfortably and made up the lead over India by 2-1 in the series.

5th Test Match 3-5 Jan, 2025 (SCG)

In the last test match of the series, India desperately needed the victory to level the series and keep their chances alive to qualify for the Test Championship Final. They decided to bat first after winning the toss. But, the pitch seemed to be difficult for batters to play. As India got all out at just 185 runs. And even, Australia’s innings wrapped up at 181 runs.

In the second innings batters’ continued to struggle on the pitch. India were losing in a tremendous phase. And then Rishabh Pant came as saviour, started hitting balls out of ground from the first ball. Because of his counter attack India was able to cross 150 runs. But, these runs were not enough for the victory. Australia chased down the target by 6 wickets.

Moments to Remember from BGT 2024-25

Despite all of the phenomenal cricketing performances, BGT 2024-25 was packed with controversies. This year we have witnessed one of the most heated and iconic moments through BGT. Which is impossible to forget as a cricket fan.

Ashwin’s Retirement

The most remarkable moment from the BGT 20243-25, Ravinchandran Ashwin retired from all formats of international cricket. He retired just after the third test at Gabba. Ashwin had a great career as a bowler with 537 wickets, he is among the best test bowlers of all time. After his retirement someone asked him if he would like to play a farewell test. Then, Ashwin replied “ I want to play more cricket. Where is the place?” He marked out that he is not fitting perfectly in India’s test squad and maybe new talent deserves it. He cleared that he doesn’t want to be in the team just to play the farewell test.

In the last he added that “It’s better to finish when people ask ‘why’ and not ‘why not’,”

Australian Media Targeted Virat Kohli

During the BGT 2024-25, Kohli was targeted by Australian media for numerous incidents. The first was the incident with Sam Kontas. When kohli bumped his shoulder into Konstas. He was pictured as a clown in the newspaper after the incident. Later Kohli was involved in a debate with an Australian reporter over a breach of privacy. He asked the reporter not to take photos of his kids. But, the reporter refused his request and said that the airport is a public place and she can film whatever she wants.

Bumrah Teased Konstas by Cheering Up Gesture

Sam Konstas was quite vocal and involved in action in his debut test match. In the first innings, Konstas sent Bumrah’s deliveries out of the ground by ramp shots. Which was totally unbelievable. Konstas gestured to the crowd to make some noise after he hitted 18 runs in Bumrah’s over.

When Bumrah was bowling him in the second innings, Konstas didn’t try a single ramp shot. But, Bumrah cleaned him up by a seamed back in delivery. Which went through the gap between his bat and pad. Bumrah celebrated his wicket by gesturing to the crowd to make some noise in the same way as Konstas did in the first innings.

Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head in Aggressive Conversation

The most popular controversy from BGT 2024-25, Siraj dismissed Travis Head escalet to an aggressive verbal fight. In the second test, Travis Head was having a great time on the ground. Scored a century and Australia was in a good state. SIraj came to bowl and cleaned him up on a nip tipping yorker. Siraj was celebrating the wicket and Head said something to him which turned the conversation aggressive.

Later in the press conference, Head claimed that he only said “well bowled” to Siraj. But, Siraj said Head is lying. ICC fined Siraj 20% of his match fee. Whereas Travis Head received 1 demerit point.

Travis Head’s Controversial Celebration

During the Boxing Day Test, Travis Head did a controversial gesture after picking Rishabh Pant’s wicket. He celebrated by putting his one finger in a round shaped hand. Which sparked controversy. Head clarified that it was about the ice treatment he started doing in Sri Lanka. He said that he doesn’t bowl regularly, and when he does, he puts his finger into a cup of ice to get ready for the next time.

Snicko Controversy

Snicko, the sound detector used in BGT 2024-25, started the debate between the experts. On three occasions Snicko seemed to be unusual which led to wrong decisions. In the first test match KL Rahul was given out even, in TV replies there was a clear gap between bat & bowl.  But, Snicko showed the spike which turned the decision in favor of Australia. The same case repeated with Washington Sundar in the third test match. Due to Snicko’s error Jaiswal also lost his wicket. Experts criticised these incidents and marked out that these technical errors are just causing damage for India only.

Rohit Sharma Excluded Himself in Last Test

As Rohit Sharma was out of the form, he decided to not include himself in India’s squad for the last test. Rohit was aware of the situation that it’s been a long time since he scored runs in a test. He considered India’s situation and let Bumrah lead India in the last test. His decision of dropping himself in the last test nourished rumors of his retirement. But in the post match interview. He cleared everyone’s doubt. He said “Mai kidhar bhi ni jara hu bhai”

Bumrah Got Injured in Last Test

In the last test match in BGT 2024-25, Jasprit Bumrah walked out of the ground. Which concerned every Indian fan. He was scanned for a back injury. After the new spread of his injury, experts started marking out the exploitation of Bumrah During BGT. Bumrah played as a lone warrior and struggled to get support from other teammates. Shohaib Akhtar also criticised the leadership of the Indian team saying that they should utilize him carefully and give him frequent breaks to keep him in good shape. Currently he’s on bed rest and aware his fans about fake news sarcastically.
