“T20i And ODI format have been the center of attraction for cricket fans”. The introduction of the World Cup in ODI and then in T20i boosted the popularity of cricket around the globe. And this led to a demand, For introducing a championship tournament for test cricket. As we all know test cricket is said to be the purest form of cricket. So, ICC considered this Idea and introduced the “World Test Championship” in 2019. Next year, 2025 will be the year of its 3rd edition. Teams are continuously trying their best to enter in the finals. And we’ll try our best to deliver all of the information from points table to qualification scenarios of upcoming Test Championship in 2025.

History Of World Test Championship

Starting the ‘World Test Championship’ was really challenging for the ICC. As from the start when former cricketer of West Indies ‘Clive Lloyd proposed the idea of Test Championship in 1996. It took almost 13 years for the ICC to figure out the structure and planning of the tournament and took more meetings to finalize it. After all of this in 2011 another announcement by ICC that the Championship will be delayed till 2017 because of funds shortage. Finally in January of 2014 ICC officially canceled the “World Test Championship 2017”. In 2017 ICC announced that in 2019 First edition of Test championship will be played at ‘The Oval’. The top 2 teams will be qualified after gaining points through the series they play in a span of 2 years.

World Test Championship 2025

In the 2025 summer month “World Test Championship 2025” final will be played at Lord’s. The qualification stage of the World Test Championship started in 2023 with the Ashes series. And the qualification stage will end in June 2025. In next section we’ll unleash the current qualification scenarios of ‘World Test Championship 2025”.

Qualification Scenario For World Test Championship (2025) 

Currently there are two teams on the top on points table “India and Australia”.  While India have 75% chances of qualifying for the final. Australia stands with 65% qualifying chances. So, it is likely that we can witness the same contenders in 2025 from the 2023 edition of the World Test Championship.

As per latest news India is playing a home series of 3 test matches against New Zealand. And if India won this series. Then their chances for qualifying for the final will be almost for sure.

And for Australia they have a home series against India Starting from November. And this series is going to be crucial for them. More than that last time India visited Australia to play a test series. They broke Australia’s fortress at “The Gabba”. This adds extra excitement to their upcoming test series.

World Test Championship 2021-2023

In 2023 India and Australia played the final of 2021-2023 Championship in june. The match was played at ‘The Oval’ cricket ground in London on 11th June.
